When actress Eliza Dushku (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Dollhouse) took a trip to war-torn northern Uganda in 2009, she found an experience far richer than she could have ever imagined. In Kampala, Eliza, her mom, Judy, and boyfriend, retired NBA star Rick Fox, met with people from Gulu—the epicenter of the brutal 25-year war led by Joseph Kony. Over the last few weeks, this warlord has been at the forefront of America’s consciousness due to Invisible Children’s controversial #Kony2012 campaign.
During their trip, Eliza, Judy and Rick met former child soldiers, women forced into sex slavery, and children who have lost their entire families. “When you go there and really get to know someone, hold their baby and hear them describe the details of being abducted at age nine,” Eliza says, “you want to help in any way you can.”
